Freire Wilmington’s mission for our students is “graduation times two”—success in and graduation from not just high school, but college as well. Our unique five-year high school program, starting in 8th grade, gives students the time and support they need to catch up and then begin to excel.
Freire’s proven college-preparatory academic program offers Delaware students a much-needed free, high-quality educational option, especially when only 3 of the 36 other public high schools in Delaware exceed the national average (68%) for college enrollment.
The Freire Wilmington community is a true family, where students and teachers work together to build the future each student wants and deserves for themselves.
"Our students are taught as the leaders that they are."
Paul Ramirez, Co-Head of School, Academics

On Teaching at Freire: I get to be the Social Studies teacher that I want to be here. Paul fully trusts me as a teacher, that what I’m doing is right for my students. I like to do project-based work and group work so that students learn what real life is like. I tell them all the time that you don’t get tests in your job, you get projects. In your real life, you work on projects together, you assign roles for each other, and you have to be accountable for your part of it, so that’s how I run my class.
